  • We LOVE this gorgeous new hand-dyed non-superwash woollen spun fingering weight Merino Possum yarn, produced by Wild Earth Yarns in New Zealand.

Super unusually for a Possum Fur mix yarn, this woollen spun version is not only luxuriously soft, it's airy and light, bouncy and fat, and lovely and warm!

It works up so well in patterns that call for a Sport yarn, and it means that you're getting Fingering (4ply) yardage and weight for Sport gauge - i.e. the fabric is lighter, and the yarn goes much further.

Your fabric will have a lovely gentle halo and feel dry to the touch.

Hannah does a wonderful job hand-dying this gorgeous yarn so that the finished skeins are heathered, tonal and absolutely beautiful for garments and accessories.

The Possum Fur used is from the wild pest population, and hand plucked from possums which have been trapped on the South Island of New Zealand.  And only the back fur is used in this yarn, since it's definitely the superior fibre.

Possum fibre is wonderfully warm, super light and soft, and beautiful to knit with. Possums are a pest in New Zealand, and wreak havoc for NZ's native wildlife. By using the fur in your knits, you're using up a bi-product of the natural pest control program in NZ. The possums aren't caught for their fur - they are caught in order to protect the eco system.

The New Zealand Fur Council say: “New Zealand sourced possum fur is recognised globally as being green and ethically sound. Possum fur is a natural product that comes from renewable resources. It has a 20 to 30 year life span. In comparison fake fur is made from petroleum-based products derived from non-renewable resources. New Zealand sourced possum fur is 100 percent from wild pest populations."

  • About Circus Tonic Handmade

Hannah Ginn founded Circus Tonic Handmade in 2014 after a break from many years studying Molecular Biology and working in the field of Genomics.

Having been a maker, collector and lifelong learner her love of natural history, colour and community came together in dyeing yarn that travels the world. Hannah says so much of the joy starts in the inspiration for the colours and her focus on Australian native birds, flora and landscapes sparked a real interest and sentimentality within her customers.

The planning and slow methodical work of a dyer is very reminiscent of her old laboratory days so it suits her down to the ground.

Now a family business based in Adelaide, Circus Tonic Handmade is growing and evolving to supply modern makers with the tools of their dreams.
